We slept in a bit this morning so as not to be featured
on an “All in the family” version of Snapped. And frankly, I hadn’t planned a whole
lot for Omaha. We made a last-minute decision to go to the Omaha Zoo. We’d had
about 10 people tell us that it was not to be missed and we agreed that the
kids were probably due for a more kid-friendly destination, what will all the
presidential libraries and dead bodies and such. But, we had to meet our presidential history quota for the day, so
we stopped by Gerald Ford’s birthplace. The house has burned, but a pretty
little rose garden remains with some memorabilia.

Our daily economics lesson commenced when we took a drive by
Warren Buffett’s house because we we’re just a bit stalky. We explained to the
children that we were going to see the house of the 3rd richest man
in the world. We asked them how big they thought it would be….they said “HUUUGE”.
We pulled up and they were shocked at its modest size.
EXACTLY! Save your money! Lesson adjourned.

Next stop! Crescent Moon Bar (For lunch!) There are two
places that claim they invented the Rueben sandwich. One is in New York and one
is the Blackstone Hotel in Omaha. We learned of this rivalry while talking to a
native Omahan in line at Joe’s in Kansas City. The Blackstone Hotel is closed and being
turned into apartments (I think) but they’ve passed along the top-secret Rueben
sandwich recipe to the bar across the street. It was delicious and who wants to
start Weight Watchers when I get home?

Omaha Zoo- We battled the heat and looked at some critters. The cuteness factor was through the roof when we got to watch this zookeeper cuddle a baby gorilla like it was her job. Because... it was her job. The zoo was great and the Dippin’ Dots were 5-star.

One last stop before leaving Omaha! World’s Largest Ball of
Stamps! This orb of delight is the final resting place of over 4 million stamps
and weights 600 pounds! It was completed in the 1950’s and was the work of the
residents of “Boys Town” which was a
home for wayward boys who needed a little straightening out. When not out taking
candy from babies and skipping school, the boys of Boys Town passed their time
with this little craft project #lickandstick

Next stop Sioux Falls!
Tonight we’ll rest our heads in the World's Largest City in South Dakota! It really isn’t that large, but big on charm! We headed down to the falls that were nestled in a pretty little park. Then we went back to the hotel and I conquered the laundry and won!
